In a large and complex institution, there are inevitably mis-understandings, elements of mis-information and moments of confusion. The Dean of Student can mediate between disputing parties and help to resolve differences.
 
Students who feel victimized or unfairly treated in any way by the enforcement of rules and regulations, the system itself or even by some personalities can seek assistance from the Dean of Student to enquire into the grievances. Advisably, students should first try to solve problems through discussion with the offices or persons directly involved before approaching the Dean of Student.
 
The Dean of Student is NOT a member of the Student Disciplinary Committee. When disciplinary proceedings are brought against a student, the main role of the Dean of Student will be to brief the student on the relevant rules and regulations, his/her rights and to provide him/her appropriate advice and assistance.
