2022-2023
We are pleased to announce the results of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Award 2022-23.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss MA Ying Wen Ashleigh, Year 3, School of Humanities and Social Science (Track & Field)
Ashleigh is a student-athlete in 400m and 400m hurdles of Track & Field. She is a member of Hong Kong Athletics Team and HKUST Track and Field Team. She was ranked number one and held the record of U20 400m hurdles in 2022. She represented HKUST in the 61st USFHK Annual Athletic Meet and won the gold medal in 400m. She is currently a Part-time Elite Athlete in the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Jason NG Tai Long HARDCASTLE, Year 3, School of Engineering (Triathlon)
Jason is an athlete in Triathlon. He is a member of Hong Kong Triathlon Team as well as HKUST Track & Field Team. He represented Hong Kong to take part in two Asian championships and one World Championships. He also represented HKUST and won the 2nd runner-up at the USFHK Athletic Meet (Men’s 5000m) and the USFHK Cross-Country Race. He is currently an Elite Athlete in the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms TSANG Suk Lan Olive (DBM)
Ms TSANG is long distance runner. She joined the Osaka Marathon and Standard Chartered Marathon and finished both marathons within 4 hours. She was awarded 2nd place in one of the trails running competitions which was held in Thailand by UTMB 2022.
Staff Sportsman Award: Prof. CHAN Mansun (ECE)
Prof. CHAN Mansun is an athlete in long-distance running and trail running. He participated in the Standard Chartered Marathon and Oxfam Trailwalker. He established the ECE Department Oxfam Trailwalker team and led three teams to participate in the Oxfam Trailwalker in 2023. Mansun's team completed the race and ranked 36 out of 392 team with the result of 21 hours 3 minutes.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Award 2021-22.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss Ma Ying Wen Ashleigh, Year 2, School of Humanities and Social Science (Track & Field)

Chun Hei is a student athlete in the Long Jump of Track & Field. He achieved 3rd place in several local competitions such as Asics Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Championships, Asics Hong Kong Athletics Series 2021 and Hong Kong Athletics Series 2022. He is a member of the Hong Kong Athletic Team and HKUST Track and Field Team. He represented HKUST and won the Long Jump Champion with the achievement of 7.30m in the 59th USFHK Annual Athletic Meet. He is currently a Part-time Elite Athlete in the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Award 2020-21.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss WONG Tseng Shun, Year 2, School of Business and Management (Sport Climbing)
Tseng Shun is an elite athlete in Sport Climbing. She is the member of Hong Kong Sport Climbing Team and HKUST Sport Climbing Team. She was also the External Vice-president of the Sports Climbing Students’ Society, HKUSTSU in 2020-2021. She represented HKUST and captured the champion title in the 4th Hong Kong Inter-institution Bouldering Championship. For local competition, Tseng Shun also won the champion in the 32nd Hong Kong Open Sport Climbing Competition.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr CHAN Chun Hei, Year 2, School of Business and Management (Track & Field)
Chun Hei is an outstanding athlete in the Long Jump of Track & Field. He is the member of the Hong Kong Athletic Team and HKUST Track and Field Team. He participated in many local competitions with outstanding results such as Men’s Long Jump Champion in Asics Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Championships 2020. In the competition season 2020-2021, Chun Hei represented HKUST and brought home the Long Jump Champion with the achievement of 7.20m in the 59th USFHK Annual Athletic Meet. This remarkable result also set the new HKUST Long Jump Record.
Staff Sportswoman Award: No award is given in this category this year.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr LAM Vincent Leslie, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (Long-distance Running)
Mr LAM Vincent Leslie is an athlete in distance running. He participated in the 5000 meters race of the Asics Hong Kong Athletics Championships Series 1 & 2 and won the 2nd runner up and 1st runner up respectively. These competitions were considered as the highest level of competitions for local athletes in distance running. Vincent’s performance in 5km is remarkable and brought him lots of glorious moments.

We are pleased to announce the results of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Award 2019-20.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss CHEUNG Kar Yue Claudia, Year 3, School of Business and Management (Taekwondo)
Miss CHEUNG is a Taekwondo athlete. She was the member of Hong Kong Taekwondo Team and HKUST Taekwondo Team. She represented Hong Kong in Mainland Taekwondo competitions (Champion in Youth Group and Young Adult Freestyle Poomsae Group). She is also the Full-time Athlete (Taekwondo) at Hong Kong Sports Institute - Elite Sports (Tier B).
Student Sportsman Award: Mr YUEN James Lawrence, Year 2, School of Business and Management (Wushu)
Mr YUEN is a student athlete in Wushu. He represented Hong Kong at several international competitions with outstanding performance such as the Champion in Six Point and Half Pole, Gold in Siu Nim Tao at an international Wing Chun Competition, and 2nd Category Prize in Nan Dao and Wing Chun Kune at World Kungfu Championships. He also receives comprehensive training and support from the Hong Kong Sports Institute as the full-time athlete under the Elite Vote Support Scheme.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms YU Lai Shan, Emily, Public Affairs Office (Triathlon)
Ms YU participates in several sports such as Triathlon, Marathon, Swimming, and Water Sports. She won the Champion in a local Stand Up Paddle open competition. She also attained several coaching certificates such as Triathlon, Dragon Boat, Canoe, Stand-Up Paddle, and the Elderly Fitness Instructor. She has been serving as International Race Official in Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association as well as coaching Canoe for Tuen Mun Canoe Club.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr LUK Chun Hung, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (Long-distance Running)
Mr LUK enjoys long-distance running. He joined several cross-country competitions and ranked 7th at the group of Male Veteran Plus in a local open mountain race. He was also the team leader of the HKUST CIVL Staff Running Team.

We are pleased to announce the results of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Award 2018-19.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss WU Kwan Yu, Year 1, Quantitative Social Analysis (Tenpin Bowling)
Miss WU is the team captain of the Hong Kong Potential Bowling Team. She represented Hong Kong joining the 32nd Asian Intercity Bowling Championships and 20th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships. She also participated in a numbers of local competitions and has achieved the title of 1st runner-up at the 62nd Festival of Sport - 2019 Tenpin Bowling Championships [Single].
Student Sportsman Award: Mr YUEN James Lawrence, Year 1, School of Business and Management (Wushu)
Mr YUEN is a Wushu athlete. He represented Hong Kong at various international competitions and has achieved a number of awards such as the Champion in Siu Nim Tao and Luk Dim Boon Kwan at World Wing Chun Open Competition as well as the 1st runner-up in Nan Dao and Wing Chun Kune at World Kungfu Championships. He is also the Part-time Elite Athlete in the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
Staff Sportswoman Award: No award is given
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr KAM Chi Kin, Forrest, Office of the Dean of Business & Management (Table-tennis)
Mr KAM joined several table tennis and long distance running competitions. He received medals at table tennis events such as Teacher Sports Festival, Corporate Games and Inter-University Staff Invitational Championships. He was also the team leader and the coach of the HKUST Staff Table Tennis Team.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year Award 2016-17.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss Cathy Tsz Ying CHAN, Year 2, School of Engineering (Rugby)
Miss Chan is a member of Hong Kong U20 Rugby Sevens Squad. She represented Hong Kong in Asian Rugby U20 Sevens Series 2016 in Hong Kong and Malaysia and captured the 1st Runner Up. Before taking up the role of Assistant Coach, she was the team captain of the HKUST Women’s Rugby Team.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Hin Shing LAU, Year 3, School of Engineering (Rugby)
Mr Lau is a rugby player of City Rugby Football Club and Hong Kong Senior Warriors Rugby Team. He represented Hong Kong in the Hong Kong Senior Warriors - Philippines Tour and brought home the Champion title. He is also the vice-captain of HKUST Rugby Team.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms Emily Lai Shan YU, Public Affairs Office (Triathlon)
Ms Yu took part in the Ironman Taiwan 5150 Taitung Triathlon, as well as local triathlon, canoeing, dragon boat, and running. She was steersman and paddler in 1-HKUST Staff and Student Dragon Boat Team.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr Wing Leong CHUNG, Office of Nanosystem Fabrication Facility (Running)
Mr Chung participated in numbers of local competitions in the sports of trail running such as Standard Chartered Hong Kong marathon and Raleigh Challenge,he demonstrated a healthy lifestyle.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year Award 2017-18.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss LEE Shuk Kwan, Year 3, Computer Science (Archery)
Miss LEE is the team member of Hong Kong Olympic Preparation Archery Team and holder of 4 Hong Kong Archery Records. She represented Hong Kong in Archery Test Event for 18th Asian Games and Rosario 2017 World Archery Youth Championships. She is also the team captain of HKUST Women’s Archery Team.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Raymond Sumitra LUKMAN, Year 3, Biotechnology (Swimming)
Mr. LUKMAN is the swimmer of Indonesia National Team. He represented Indonesia in various international competitions and has achieved a number of awards including Bronze Medal in 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay in the 29th Southeast Asian Games. He also represented HKUST to join the 2017/18 USFHK Aquatic Meet and captured the Gold Medal in 50m Freestyle and Bronze Medal in 50m Butterfly.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms YU Lai Shan Emily, Public Affairs Office (Triathlon)
Ms YU is an all-around sports participant. She joined different sports such as Triathlon, Marathon and Kayaking. She is the helmsman and paddler in the 1-HKUST Staff and Student Dragon Boat Team. She also served the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association as International Race Official and Tuen Mun Canoe Club as Canoe Coach respectively.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr. HA Wing Kwan, Technology Transfer Center (Running)
Mr HA participated in a number of local and international competitions such as Sportshouse Hong Kong Challenge and the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year Award 2015-16.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss Kimberley Vanessa Cheung, Year 4, Biochemistry and Cell Biology (Fencing)
Miss Cheung is a fencer. Miss Cheung is a fencer. She represented Hong Kong in the Asian Fencing Championships and Under 23 Asian Fencing Championships winning silver and bronze medals.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Raymond Sumitra LUKMAN, Year 1, School of Science (Swimming)
Mr Lukman took part in the 47th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships 2016 and Hong Kong International Open Swimming Championships in 2015 winning silver and bronze medal respectively. He won the first gold medal for HKUST in 52nd USFHK swimming championships and set two new HKUST swimming records in the intramural swimming competition.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms Petra Yung, Biosciences Central Research Facility (Running)
Ms Yung participated in three international marathons in London, Chicago and Taipei, as well as local marathons, charity run and corporate games.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr Forrest Chi Kin KAM, Office of the Dean of Business & Management (Table Tennis, Running)
Mr Kam participated in local competitions in the sports of table tennis and running, he was a team leader and coach for Table Tennis Team of HKUST.

Miss Cheung is a fencer. She represented Hong Kong in the Asian Fencing Championships and Asian Games in Korea, and Under 23 Asian Fencing Championships in Philippines.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Kelvin Kai Hin Chu, Year 3, Environmental Science (Rowing)
Mr Chu is a rower. He took part in the 1-Asia Cup Rowing Championship 2015 in Singapore.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms Petra Yung, Biosciences Central Research Facility (Running)
Ms Yung participated in five international marathons in Xiamen, Guangzhou, Brussels, Berlin and Lanzhou, as well as local marathons, charity run, district age group athletic meets and corporate games.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr Joe Poon, Security Unit, FMO (Dragon Boat)
Mr Poon took part in dragon boat races, he was head coach of 1-HKUST Staff & Student Dragon Boat Team and committee member of HKUST Water Sports Center Preparatory Taskforce.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year Award 2013-14.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss Kimberley Vanessa Cheung, Year 2, Biochemistry and Cell Biology (Fencing)
Miss Cheung is a skillful and outstanding fencing player who frequently competes in local and international competitions. She is currently a holder of 7 HK Records.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Ho Yin Ma, Year 3, Mathematics (Archery)
Mr Ma is an archery player who took part in local and international competitions with impressive results. He was the holder of HK Youth Record in 40M and attained the highest HK ranking of 20th in Recurve Men in 2013.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms Petra Yung, Biosciences Central Research Facility (Running)
Ms YUNG is a Marathon runner and has outstanding performance in Marathon competitions at local, open and international levels.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr Ting Kit Ng, Security Unit, FMO (Dragon Boat and Swimming)
Mr Ng took part in dragon boat race and open swimming competitions with impressive results. He was also the committee coordinator of 1-HKUST Staff & Student Dragon Boat Team; Assistant coach of HKUST Staff Association Dragon Boat Team, and the Committee member of Lion Dance Team of Security Unit.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year Award 2012-13.
Staff Sportsman Award: Mr Kwok Kuen HAM, Student Life Center (Korfball)
Mr HAM plays korfball and represented Hong Kong to participate in the World Korfball Championship in Barcelona. He was the top scorer among 192 athletes in the tournament, and one of the 4 male players being selected for the All Star Team.
Staff Sportswoman Award: Ms Petra Yuk Lan YUNG, Biosciences Central Research Facility (Running)
Ms YUNG is a Marathon runner and has outstanding performance in Marathon competitions.
Student Sportsman Award: Mr Ho Laam CHIU, Year 2, Applied Physics (Rowing)
Mr CHIU has won champion title in Rowing, and contributes a lot to the Rowing Team and Students’ Swimming Club.
Student Sportswoman Award: Miss Yonnie Ying Kiu FU, Year 3, Pure Physics (Archery)
Miss FU has impressive achievements in both international, local and intervarsity competitions, and currently holds 8 Hong Kong Records in archery.

We are pleased to announce the result of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year Award 2011-12.
Sportswoman (Student, Miss Yonnie Ying Kiu Fu, Year 2 PHYS)
Miss Fu achieved outstanding results for the international, local and intervarsity archery competitions. She participated in the World Archery Youth Championship 2011 in Poland, HK Target Archery Tournament, HK Target Archery Championship, and the 10th Post-Secondary Archery Tournament, etc. She is currently a record holder of 7 current Hong Kong Records.
Sportsman (Student, Mr Cheuk Yiu Lai, Year 2 ACCT)
Mr Lai contributed to the promotion and development of rowing at HKUST and among other local universities. His team also won championships, as well as 1st and 2nd runner ups , of various rowing competitions including Head of Shing Mun 2012, Verdant River Regatta IV, Hong Kong Universities Indoor Rowing Championships, etc.
Sportswoman (Staff, Ms Queenie Sin Ling Liu, HSEO)
Ms Liu is a Marathon runner who participated in a number of local and overseas open competitions and had great achievements.
Sportsman (Staff, Prof Pedro V Sander, COMP)
Prof Sander is a keen tennis player and has been very supportive in promoting tennis within the HKUST community. He is a member of the HKUST Staff Tennis Club and won many tennis competitions.
